Sapporo is two and a half hours from Seoul. Hokkaido is known first as a ski destination, but demand as a summer escape is just as real — when you go changes the character of the trip entirely. Winter requests built around a stay in Niseko are the most common.
Airports and ground access
New Chitose sits about 40km southeast of Sapporo, forty minutes to an hour by road. If Niseko or Rusutsu is the destination, driving straight from the airport beats routing through the city. In winter, snow clearing can slow ground handling, so it is worth leaving margin around departure times.
Scheduling and aircraft
A midsize or super-midsize jet suits the two-and-a-half-hour sector, and there is no time difference. From December through March, ski demand across Hokkaido makes both aircraft and slots harder to secure — confirming earlier than you would on other routes gives you more choice.
Questions about this route
- How do I get on to Niseko?
- A little over two hours by road from New Chitose. We position a car for your landing time and allow extra in winter, when road conditions can stretch the drive. Tell us where you are staying and we will arrange it accordingly.
- Will snow disrupt a winter trip?
- New Chitose is well equipped for snow and full closures are rare. Heavy snowfall can still push back ground handling and departure sequencing, so delays remain possible. For winter trips we suggest building in margin and not scheduling tight connections at the other end.
